Monday Miscellanea – in which I publicly close the tabs that have accumulated since the last time. Since this is the first time, and since I’ve recently switched browsers, the accumulation is light.
“Few in 1964 would have expected Title VII to apply to discrimination against homosexual and transgender persons. But legislative history has no bearing here,” Gorsuch writes.
If the actual purpose and meaning of the law doesn’t matter, then what does?
What Gorsuch, Roberts and his leftist colleagues believe matters. Nothing else. Rights are as imaginary as gender and legislative history gets in the way of legislating from the bench.
The Gorsuch decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia finding that “sex” in Title VII covers any group having anything to do with sex in a trendy way has been described as “textual”. It’s only textual if you think the text of legislation should be read through a contemporary definition rather than the definition of the time. When President Taft’s wife was discussing their “gay season”, it didn’t mean gay any more than “sex” does. Except maybe according to Gorsuch.
But words can mean anything and nobody cares about facts anyway.
If our awful media did their jobs, we’d all know that “sex” was added to the Civil Rights Act as an attempt to derail it. Instead, we are left with an abominable decision.
At least the dystopia of 1984 had some class. The mere act of proposing this ought to result in literal public flogging.
“They say children should not exist if the quality of life will be low or poor. It’s better to be dead than poor? I think that’s eugenics at its finest.”
The Western liberal doesn’t hate colonialism, despite his rhetoric. It’s just that, instead of the sort of colonies which involve cooperation (i.e. Roger Williams), he prefers to just mass slaughter the natives. The images would be horrific, so he uses abortion, where he can keep the graphical detail restricted to mere words on a subject in which he’s perfected his control.
There’s already a good response to this nonsense here. There are two lessons here. First, never try to appease the mob. You can’t. Second, if you were tempted to try and appease the mob, you are already compromised.
At the very least, anyone who puts Christianity and Critical Theory in opposition is on the right track. This article is good. Christians need to be smart enough to identify evil and broken philosophy, and the apologetics renaissance seems to have prepared clear Christian thinkers for just such a task.
Don’t miss this guy’s story. He’s the canary in the coal mine for both the radical LGBT movement (which I suspect will replace the racial chaos by the end of the summer) and for online censorship.
America’s latest false religion is yet another sorry attempt to borrow what we like from Christianity while throwing out the rest. Christians who join this cult are in severe danger of apostasy.
One of these fleeting days I will need to write down my thoughts on this subject, because they’ve shifted over the years as I’ve seen what I thought were unassailable principles lead to genuine evil. I am in general agreement with Blackburn on this, now, where I would have opposed it in libertarian style five years ago, but it would require its own post to get into the reasons.
Depressing, but necessary reading. Transgenderism is yet another weapon the state has provided selfish adults to destroy children.
As others have put it: If the Left did not have double standards, it would have no standards at all.
What do you do when the Supreme Court breaks the law?
It is impossible to comprehend how much damage the Supreme Court has done to our values, society, sovereignty, rule of law, and self-governance since the Warren Era. Now hold that thought and consider that 20 of 28 justices since 1952 were nominated by GOP presidents.Daniel Horowitz
“We must erase the legacy of people who shared the moral blindspots of their times” say people who use their slave-labor-made smart phones to drive past abortion clinics and run down nursing homes en route to the “tear down a statue” party.Hans Fiene
It turns out clinging to our bibles and guns was the smartest thing we ever did.Anonymous
In Roe, they redefined life. On Obergefel, they redefined marriage. In Bostock, they redefined sexuality. This is how the left wins 100 year battles overnight without firing a shot and without facing any electoral reprisal. We will never overcome judicial supremacism.Daniel Horowitz
